The conference is open to ALL postgraduates (research and taught) and undergraduates in the Department of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Birmingham
The Department of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Birmingham hosts an annual conference for its postgraduate students to present their research. It is traditionally organised by the department’s PG Tips, an inclusive group of PG students run by PG students for PG students. This year, the BELP Conference is inviting all postgraduates and undergraduates in the Department of Ebglish Language and Linguistics at the University of Birmingham to attend the conference. The aim of this is to bring together the student community of the department and share in the research that is being conducted by its postgraduate researchers.

What is BELP?
The Birmingham English Language Postgraduate Conference - known as BELP - is an annual conference for Postgraduate students in English Language and Applied Linguistics. Since 1998, BELP has provided postgraduate researchers with a platform to present work and network with researchers in the fields of English Language and Applied Linguistics. The 2021 conference is entirely virtual, operating exclusively on the Zoom conferencing platform in order to as inclusive as possible. There is a diverse range of sessions organised for the conference. This includes a plenary, round table panel discussion, oral presentations, poster presentations, and a social event to bring the day to a close. Plenary - We welcome the department's Viola Wiegand, who will be talking about (corpus) linguistics and open research. Round table panel discussion - We welcome delegates to apply to be a part of the panel at the panel discussion on the Progressing research during COVID, which will be led by three panelists Ashley Blake, Nouf Alharbi, and Bingjun Zhang. Oral presentations will be 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion. |

Posters will be displayed via an online forum during the conference (and beyond) that delegates can visit at any time. Delegates can leave comments on the posters for the poster presenters. Structured poster discussion sessions will run during the lunch break, when delegates can engage live with poster presenters.
